Snow Day

This week we will be learning all about The Solar System. We will be finding out about how the planets orbit the sun and facts about each planet such as, size, distance from the sun and structure. If you have access to the internet, with an adult, or any books on space you can look at the planets and create an informative poster to bring into school tomorrow.

We are also looking at the features of non-fiction texts in general, so if the above work is too challenging, read a selection of non-fiction texts and explain how they differ from a story. The children need to think about what they need to include in their non-fiction text.

I have uploaded two maths worksheets into the homework section. This week we will be looking at subtraction, so if you have any spare time the children could use objects around the house to practise 'counting backwards'.

Other than that I hope you have a lovely day in the snow...it's pretty much slush here in Manchester!

Journey into Outer Space

This term the children will be learning about space. We will be covering:

Stars and their constellations.
Space exploration and the race to land on the moon.
The planets and the solar system.

The rest of the term will be spent creating our very own sci-fi stories from the knowledge we have gained.

If you have any space books or toys that you could bring into school they would be greatly appreciated.

Gingerbread Houses
