Macmillan Coffee Morning September 28th 2012

This it the third year that we have run this charity event and it has really caught on! We had so many visitors who came along that it was rather a crush and we may have to hold it in the hall next time (last year it was such good weather that we held it outside on the grass!). The children have learnt so many good skills: greeting, taking orders, serving, clearing etc etc. Thank you to all the parents who came along at 9 p.m. The takings are already over £250 and we will have plenty to sell after school.

What a mouth-watering selection

You can see why they sold so well can't you?

The coffee morning in full swing.

It was such a sociable affair.

The waiters and waitresses really took their jobs seriously.

Sponsored rafts from Taxal and Fernilee Summer Fair

Due to the terrible weather in the Summer, the River Goyt was too dangerous to enter and all the ducks in the duck race would have been swept away, along with our rafts.

Generous companies around the area donate money to have rafts made for them. There is no prize, just the honour of winning. We thought we should show you the rafts that were made - here's to better luck with the raft race next year!

Harvest Festival Celebration at Taxal and Fernilee CE Primary

The whole school walked up to St James's Church, the Y6 children holding the hands of their Reception buddies, as it is a long way for little legs so early in the school year!

The children all brought in non perishable goods which will be taken to 'Night Stop' in Buxton, which supports people who do not have enough to eat.

The class hampers in the church decorate it well, I am sure you will agree, but they will also be very useful to others in the community too.

Y6's offerings placed by the font

Year 1's hampers on the window ledge

Year 5's hampers contained some produce from our garden in school.

Thanks to Mrs Axcel for the lovely service and to so many parents for accompanying us.

A retrospective look at the end of the Summer Term 2012 at Taxal and Fernilee CE Primary

There was so much going on at the end of last term that I got a little behind with recording the events which went on. So before we really get going with the new academic year, let's look back at some of the more interesting things which happened.Olympic Torch

Firstly there was a visit from George's grandma Francis Dalrymple-Smith who ran a leg of the torch relay in Bakewell and came to show us her tracksuit and the torch she carried. She also told us what it was like to run through cheering crowds.

The children all wanted to touch the torch.

A special picture for the Y6 pupils to remember the visit. Thank you Francis.

The raised bed competition was judged

There was stiff competition amongst the classes for the prizes on offer for the best raised bad. All classes decorated their boxes beautifully before the judge arrived. Most classes made a scarecrow out of recycled materials. As the Y6 children had been rather busy with all their projects after the SATs tests, they had to be rather inventive with their scarecrow!

When this scarecrow moved, the judge had a genuine shock and then a fit of the giggles!

Congratulations to Class 4 for winning with their Jack and the Beanstalk themed raised bed.

Year 6 Enterprise

We think it is really important that children learn about the process of making money. After the SATs, it was an ideal opportunity to really focus on this. The children learnt about gross profit, net profit, market research, product testing and advertising/product promotion. They made over £200!

Sock creatures in production.

The badge makers hard at work.

The cakes were a real success.

There were other very successful teams, who realised the value of taking on different roles, such as finance director, marketing manager, managing director, production manager etc

Y6 Prom Party at school

What a wonderful night they had. Can you believe how glamorous they looked?

The children in their transformed classroom.

The boys in their smart outfits.

Mrs Lonsdale presented the Taxal Oscar awards to all the children - everyone has something great about them!

A delicious buffet was provided.

Every year we do this for the children because they deserve it!

Thank you to the PFA who pay for it and to Mrs Crankshaw for decorating the classroom so professionally. Finally thanks to Mrs Lonsdale for hosting the evening.
