Red Day for PFA and St Valentine's Day

Everyone wore red, which means that the hall looked amazingly colourful this morning.

This was an exciting assembly, as the Y5 children had planned it completely by themselves. At the end of the assembly some of the children, who watched it, came to tell me what they thought and it sounded like I will have to make more of an effort with my assemblies!

There were people dressed up as huge hearts, The Beatles singing 'All you need is Love', flowers and roses being given out and red petals being thrown into the audience. Everyone said they enjoyed it.

Well done Y5 - a good powerpoint too, which told the story of St Valentine (rather gruesome I'm afraid).

Ready to present the assembly.

Pictured underneath are two lovely little girls who came to tell me what they thought of the assembly and then gave each other a hug for Valentine's Day.

Year 1 Class assembly in SPACE!

What an interesting assembly we had this morning. All of the children in Year 1 had learnt their lines so well and spoke really clearly. It was a very professional performance and the songs were really lively.

Some very brainy scientists were involved and we were lucky enough to be led in the school prayer by one of them! One of the scientists was very excitable and his glasses flew off.

Lots of energy in this photo!

Our three intrepid astronauts, who showed us how they handed on the moon. They even showed us an experiment with an apple and a feather, to show how gravity is less on the moon.

Thank you Mr Crawshaw, Mrs Plant and Miss Purcell for rehearsing the children so well that their parents were very proud of them. Also, a big thank you to the parents who attended because they were such an appreciative audience.

Talented Taxalites!

Our children never cease to amaze us with their creativity. The first picture shows children who took clay home for homework and made models of creatures. The second shows a model made just for fun, which was brought in to show the teacher.

An elephant and a scorpion model.

I think my eyes are playing tricks on me!

Enjoying the snow at Taxal and Fernilee School.

When it snows we so often keep children in. In Year 6 Mrs Lonsdale decided to do the opposite and so children had a voluntary snow session! Children who did not like the snow or didn't want to have snow ball fight (4 of them), stayed in and everyone else went outside.

Quite an amazing sky, I think you will agree!

First week back in 2013

Firstly, take a look at my new Headteacher stickers. Sometimes teachers send their children to me to show me the fantastic things that they have done, or sometimes I roam around the school looking for people doing the right thing, so I can give them one e.g. today I gave one to a child who was caring for another child, then one for someone helping a child to button their coat up and lastly one to a little boy who congratulated one of their classmates for something. If your child comes home with one of these, it will have been because they have done something great!

While I was going round school looking for children doing things right, I came across a very excited group of children who had made an enormously long chain of paperclips by working together. The whole chain measured over 12 metres, and they rather fancied marking their achievement by being included on the website - so here it is!
