Taxal and Fernilee Out of School Club
Introduction for parents
Welcome to Taxal and Fernilee Out of School Club
The Out of School Club (OSC) was established in August 1995 by parents for the use of parents requiring a quality, safe, reliable childcare, environment for their children out of school hours.
Who can use the club?
Any parent from Primary schools local to Whaley Bridge requiring childcare for their children between the hours of 8am-8:55am and after school until 6:15pm Monday to Thursday, 5:30pm Friday, can use the Club. You do not need to be a working parent, many parents whose hobbies, interests or commitments mean that they can not get to school on time for collecting the children, use the Club.
How do I book a place?
As soon as you know that you will need a place, please ring:
07979 063283 for a booking.
You will need to complete a form with basic information about your child and where we can contact you. This information is strictly confidential. We will give you a Member's pack and a small membership fee per family is levied annually in September.
When do I pay?
Payment can be made at Taxal & Fernilee school on Fridays between 8:30 to 9:00am and 3:00 to 3:30pm. If you are not available at this time alternative arrangements can be made. We can take cash and cheques.
Am I entitled to help with fees?
We do have some parents who can claim child care costs if they satisfy certain conditions. Up-to-date information is always available on request, and we are happy to assist with filling in the necessary forms.
Do I have to book a full session?
We aim to be as flexible as possible and our minimum stay period is 1 hour.
How much does it cost?
Breakfast Club: £3.20
Out of School Club: £4.20 per hour for 1 child & £3.00 per hour for any additional children.
How can I be sure that my child arrives safely at the club?
Children visiting the Club for the first time will be collected from their classroom, other children from Taxal & Fernilee School make their own way to the hall. If they don't arrive on time, staff will look for them. For your part, please remember to let us know if your child is not in school if you have already booked a place or if you use the Club on a regular basis. Children from other schools are collected from a designated collection point by our escorts who wear the OSC badge and uniform.
Do I have to use it every week?
No - Whilst we like to take regular bookings, other places are available on a first come, first served basis whenever you need to. We are registered for a maximum of 30 children per day.
What if I'm late home?
The club finishes at 6:15pm Monday to Thursday and 5:30pm on Friday and we have found that most parents are home by then. If, however, due to unforeseen circumstances, you can not arrive in time, please contact us immediately on our direct telephone number.
Are meals provided?
A varied breakfast menu is available from 8am. Tea is available from 4:30pm and we encourage children staying after this time to eat tea with us. A sample menu is available.
Can I cancel?
If you need to cancel your place please ring us as soon as possible.
Cancellations after 8:30am on the day will be charged.
What about school holidays?
Information regarding Holiday care is available on request and Is on the OSC noticeboard.
How do I know my child will receive quality childcare?
We have a team of trained NNEB and BTec Supervisors and Playworkers who have all been approved by social services. The Club conforms to the children's act 1989 and as part of the High Peak and Derbyshire Dales out of school Childcare network, we subscribe to their code of practice, we are also members of the National Kids Club network, if you have any problems or queries about the club we will be pleased to discuss them with you. We are always ready to improve our service.
We have comprehensive policy and procedure documents covering, child protection, behaviour, equal opportunities, special needs, sun-play and medication. All of these can be seen on the OSC noticeboard.
What happens if my child is sick or has an accident?
All our staff hold current first aid certificates and will follow proper procedures in case of accidents or sickness. We have an accident book and you will be told if your child has been involved in an accident.
How does the Club interact with Taxal and Fernilee Primary School?
We operate independently from the school, which enables us to make our own management decisions such as pricing and equipment buying. We do, however, have a good working relationship with the school. The Club Manager reports to a committee which is made up of parents, OSC staff and a Taxal and Fernilee School Parent Governor, so that we can enjoy good communication at all levels.
Can I help with the club or join the committee?
The Club is a registered charity and we always need help with fundraising for new equipment, your support for this will be welcome. If you wish to be directly involved with the Club we always advertise staff vacancies. If you are interested in joining the Commitee, we welcome all parents to our quarterly meetings.
