Colour Weeks

Our three colour weeks - red, blue and green - have been very successful. The children have taken home messages very efficiently, and generally come to school wearing the right colour on the right day! I have also been very impressed by the enthusiasm with which many of them did their 'homework', bringing in lists of a whole range of shades of red and blue. Some children even took it upon themselves to find out about shades of green too! Well done everybody.

'Building Strength for Reading and Writing'

As mentioned in the spring newsletter, we have been working with our local feeder nurseries, to produce a booklet for parents, offering ideas for supporting and developing children's physical skills in the home situation. This has now been completed, and those parents whose children were involved in the physical literacy project will already have received a copy. If anyone else would like to obtain one, please ask at the reception desk. Alternatively, I have included an electronic copy in the 'Class Newsletters' section.

RSPB Visit

Yesterday, a group of volunteers from the RSPB came in to Reception class, to work with the children on a variety of bird related activities. The children were very enthusiastic and worked hard, their enjoyment being evident for all to see. I particularly wanted to say how complimentary our visitors were about the Reception Class. Here are some of their comments:

"What a delight the children were to work with...they were all really focussed."

"I am amazed by their knowledge..."

"I have worked in a lot of classrooms, and you can tell the atmosphere as soon as you walk in....this is a lovely environment."

"There is some lovely art work on the walls... it is a lovely bright classroom."

"Everything seems so very well organised."

I was really proud of the children, and I'm sure that their parents will be as well.

World Book Day

We had a very successful start to the morning, with five willing volunteers coming into Reception Class, armed with interesting books, to read to small groups of children. The children listened really well, enjoying the stories (and the jokes!). Some of the children came back so enthused that they wanted to continue reading with their friends, and the book table was actually a more popular choice than baking gingerbread men!

There are a few more photographs of the storytelling groups in our gallery.

Thank you to all those parents who were able to join us for this occasion.

A Busy Week

This has been a busy week, with lots of opportunities for design and construction. We have all designed and decorated biscuits, and some of the children have been involved in designing, making and playing their own musical instruments. Sid and Jack were so inspired that they brought in their own musical instruments from home, to play along with the others. Have a look in our gallery, to see some of the photos.
