This week in school 23.03.2026:
In the final week of the spring term, we will be very busy across school with Easter crafts, the Easter church service, looking after and observing the chicks - who are growing and changing on a daily basis, Easter baking, creating Easter gardens and on Friday we will be holding our Easter bonnet parade and Egg decorating competition for all of those who choose to enter. Year 1 will also be delivering their PSHE assembly to school on Tuesday. Our Mental Health ambassadors will be completing their final training this week in readiness for the summer term projects that they will be working on.
This week in school 16.03.2026:
This week, we have the exciting addition of Living Eggs to our school. The children will observe the little chicks hatching and developing this will not only be lots of fun but will also enhance their learning and understanding of the science topic - life cycles. On Wednesday, Open the Book will visit school to bring a bible story to life during worship. The school will be treated to the dress rehearsal of Year 2's Africa production on Thursday which they will perform for their families in the evening.
This week in school 11.03.2026:
On Tuesday, this week we welcome back 'Sowing Roots' who will be working with the Year 4 class. We will be treated to Year 3 PSHE worship on Wednesday when the children will be sharing their work with the rest of the school. Our students that access iRock lessons, will be performing their spring concert on Thursday, whilst Year 5 will be completing their enrichment activity and creating gifts out of fluffy socks for the important women in their lives. Reception class will be inviting female members of their family to a very special Mothering Sunday worship which will be taking place on Friday.
This week in school 02.03.2026:
We have another busy week ahead with lots of activities and learning related to World Book Day and the year of reading. On Monday, Year 4 and 5 took part in a live lesson from the British Library and the author Michael Rosen. The children listened to a range of global stories that used food as a theme and also took part in an illustrating activity. Later in the week, the classes will be creating their own food based stories and sharing them with their peers on World Book Day. Our chosen activity for WBD this year is to create a book review which the children can then use to gain a Blue Peter Reading Badge. On Friday, reception class and Year 1 will be visiting the local library, learning about how a library works and borrowing a book, they will then visit the library on a monthly basis. Some children are choosing to dress up for WBD and will be taking part in a parade, whilst the school council are organising a second hand book stall to raise money towards a very exciting addition to the school.
This week in school 23.2.2026:
This week has been a very busy first week back after half term. Year 6 have spent most of the week at Whitehall doing a whole range of activities: abseiling, mountain biking, zip-lining, caving, walking and played 'wide games' with another school - a good chance to make some new friends.
This term's worship theme is Integrity and we have been thinking as a whole school about 'doing the right thing even when no-one's looking'. This is linking with our thinking about Lent and preparing for Easter.
This week in school 09.02.2026:
This week is Children's Mental Health week, the theme this year is 'This is my place' with a focus on belonging. In worship on Monday the children were asked to consider all of the places they feel they belong. Throughout the week the children will be completing a variety of activities, including alive lesson with Picture News on Wednesday. On Tuesday, Year 6 will have their traditional pancake race. The children in reception class have been learning all about Lunar New Year and have been completing lots of fun activities. Year 3 will be hosting our Valentine's service at Trinity Church on Wednesday afternoon.
This week in school 02.02.2026:
On Monday, Beryl our church warden came into school to deliver an exciting and interactive worship about respect. Our reception class children also had a 'super hero day' it was lovely to see so many colourful outfits and wonderful to see a child dressed as a nurse! On Tuesday afternoon, our Year 5 and 6 basket ball team will be attending the finals in Buxton - good luck! Open the book will be bringing to life another bible story in worship on Wednesday and Sewing Roots are visiting Year 6 in the afternoon to provide a workshop around Mental Health and Wellbeing. The last preparations are under way for the Year 4 Roman Play on Thursday, which they will be performing to the rest of school and their families. On Friday we will be welcoming Year 2 families into school for 'Stay and Read' when the children will be looking through their workbooks and sharing information about their learning.
This week in school 26.01.2026:
This week is a busy week for Year 5! On Tuesday the class will be visited by an architect for a problem solving and Q and A session this is following their studies of Canadian landmarks. On Wednesday morning we will welcome the Year 5 parents into school for a stay and read session where they will be given the opportunity to look through their work and chat to their child about the activities completed. On Thursday afternoon, Year 5 will attend forest school for the first time this year.
This week in school 19.01.2026:
This week, we will be having an RE focus day across the year groups. In line with our school script values, this half terms being respect, we will be look how animals are respected by different religions. The children will be producing a piece of art work in the form of poetry, sculpture or painting/drawing which links to theme of this years NATRE Spirited Art Competition: Prayer for all that lives! Animals, Earth, God. On Wednesday, a group of children from Years 3 and 4 will be taking part in a ball sports event at New Mills.
This week in school 12.01.2026:
This week, we have a Year 6 information evening for parents which will provide parents with additional information about the upcoming residential and the SATs. On Wednesday we have 4 year 5 boys and 4 year 6 girls representing the school at a basketball tournament. Thursday will see the Year 3 children accessing a forest school session with Ms Cleveland.
This week in school 05.01.2026:
Our first week back is considerably quieter than usual. In worship we have been looking at the School Values - in particular the vale of respect which will be our focus this half term. We also welcome 2 new adults to school Miss Simm who is teaching in Year 5 and Miss Dudley who is supporting in Year 4.
This week in school 15.12.2025:
Well this week has been so very busy in school, hence the late news. On Monday, Year 2 lead the school in a wonderful Christmas Church service. The whole school sang to a packed out hall of grandparents and elderly neighbours at our annual Coffee and Carols event. On Wednesday, wearing our Christmas jumpers, we tucked into a delicious Christmas dinner. This morning, Year 5 had their dress rehearsal of Cinderella and Rockerfella, the children and staff really enjoyed watching the panto. Tomorrow will be our last day, we've got lots of fun, parties, games and Christmas films planned to spend our last day of the year together.
This week in school 08.12.2025:
This week, the reception class will be performing their Traditional Nativity Play to the school and their families. On Thursday, the school will be treated to a concert from the children who have been attending I-Rock. The Big Sing choir will be visiting the Christmas Luncheon on Thursday and performing with local primary schools at the Big Sing Event in New Mills on Friday night.
This week in school 01.12.2025:
On Monday, Beryl from Church delivered a worship all about advent. On Tuesday, the children are being treated to a run through of the Year 1 Christmas singing performance. On Wednesday, Open the Book will be in performing part of the Christmas story and some children are attending a Boccia event at Chapel High School. This Thursday some KS1 children will be taking part in a flax workshop following the successful growing of flax by some of our families. On Friday, the whole school will be watching a live lesson from Picture News from Antarctica and will then be taking part in the Merry Mile in support of our link charity Blythe House.
This week in school 24.11.2025:
Reception class have a busy week practising for their Nativity Play. They are also taking part in Forest Schools on Tuesday. Our cross country runners got through to the final which is being held in New Mills on Wednesday. Classrooms are being decorated in time for our Christmas School Fair on Saturday.
This week in school 17.11.2025:
Rehearsals have started for the upcoming Revive Church Big Sing event in December. Year 5 and 6 have completed the NSPCC Speak out Stay Safe workshop. A visitor has been to speak to the children about the local Park Run event which is held every Sunday. We have a team of runners attending the mixed schools cross country event on Wednesday. We are holding a whole school RE event on Wednesday when children will be in mixed age groups - Reception and KS1 will be learning all about Diwali and KS2 will be learning about Hannukah On Friday, we have a local Vet visiting school working with the children in life skills.
